Marble is a crystallized type of limestone and can be polished to a mirror-finish bringing gorgeous depth in its color. Limestone is a chalky, dusty rock, while marble is hard and compact. Unfortunately, marble countertops are one of the most costly materials for kitchen or bathroom countertops. If the take good care of your marble countertop then it can be in the same condition as it was first fabricated. Marble countertops are heat resistant and will not burn or catch fire, but the finish of the countertop can, if hot items are placed directly on the surface of the marble countertop. It is better to place a pot holder or a place mat between the surface of the countertop and the hot pan. Because marble countertops are made up of natural stone, they are highly resistant to scratches, cracks and breakage. When choosing a marble countertop you have two types of choices. The first type of countertop is marble slab which is very expensive and this can last for the rest of the homeowner's lifetime. The second type of marble countertop is marble tiles. These are less expensive when compared to marble slabs. Marble countertops can withstand frequent use, and they can be cleaned easily. Maintenance is very simple. Wiping your marble countertop with a wet rag or disinfectant can keep your countertop glowing for a long time. Just remember to wipe up spills on your marble countertop immediately.
